The Swedish mezzo soprano Erika Sax made her début already before she graduated from the University College of Opera in Stockholm, as the main lead in Rossini ́s Cenerentola at the Wermlands Opera in Karlstad, Sweden. With her lyric dramatic warm timbre and strong stage presence she has since then been a regular guest at all the major Swedish opera stages. At The Royal Swedish Opera she has sung roles such as Pauline (Pique Dame), Annina (Der Rosenkavalier) and Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos). At the Swedish Folkopera she has appeared as Maddalena (Rigoletto) and Gertrude (Romeo&Juliet - Gounod) and at Norrlandsoperan she has sung Mary (Der Fliegende Holländer)

At the Gothenburg Opera she was engaged in the ensemble over a ten year period singing parts as Maddalena (Rigoletto), Orlofsky (Der Fledermaus), Sonjetka (Lady Macbeth from Mzensk), Dritte Dame (Mozart) among many more.

As a versatile classical artist with more than thirty roles on her resume, she has a wide repertoar from Handel to Wagner and Strauss. She has been collaborating with conductors such as Alan Gilbert, Per Giorgio Morandi, Patrik Ringborg among others. Highlights on the concert stage include performing as a soloist with the Gothenburg Opera Orchestra, Drottningholm Court Baroque Ensemble, The Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Rebaroque and more.

Erika has been a soloist in all the major works of sacred music including; Verdi Requiem, Christmas Oratorio, St John’s Passion (Bach), The Messiah (Handel), Requiem, Harmonie Messe, Coronation Mass (Mozart), Gloria (Vivaldi) Requiem (Duruflé) Stabat Mater (Pergolesi) The Swedish mass (Roman) LÓratorie de Noël (Saint- Saëns) and more.

With a natural talent for acting she has been acclaimed for her strong portraits of female operatic characters and has successfully worked with directors such as Christof Loy, Peter Konwitschy and Graham Vick.

Erika has received scholarships from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, The Kerstin Meyer Award as well as the prestigious Anders Wall scholarship.
